Join In Medio as we preview our set for our performance at the 2026 Northwest American Choral Directors Association conference! We're reprising selections from our We Shall Have A Song concert from spring 2024, which featured Randall Thompson's The Peaceable Kingdom and Walk in Beauty, Walk in Light, a world premiere In Medio commissioned by local composer Judy A. Rose.

The conference (March 6 in Tacoma, WA) is not open to the public, so this will be your only chance to hear this music performed live again. Plus, we're expanding our venue offerings and are excited to sing for you in the beautiful St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Beaverton. We hope you'll join us to celebrate this incredible opportunity!

3.15 | Northwest Vocal Arts - Cordilheira: Range of the Americas - Songs of Brazil

More than a concert, Cordilheira is a cultural celebration blending choral music, Brazilian percussion, and heartfelt community connection.

The concert will feature the NWVA professional Olympia Chamber Choir and the NWVA Evergreen Youth Choir performing stunning choral works including Bendita Sabedoria by Brazil's greatest composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and two works by Carlos Alberto Pinto Fonseca, Muie Rendera a setting of two of the most popular folk tunes from Northeast Brazil with percussion accompaniment and based on the Brazilian rhythm baião and Jubiabá, an evocation of a candomblé ceremony.

Pre-concert will feature DJ Ju Borba, setting the tone with a Brazilian soundtrack, welcoming the audience as they arrive. After the performance, the celebration continues with a joyful Brazilian reception, where music, flavors and warmth come together. Santa Terra Bakery will serve authentic Brazilian sweets and savory bites. Nossa Família Coffee will provide freshly brewed Brazilian coffee. The BrazilTones will perform bossa nova and MPB favorites. The reception is produced in collaboration with GINGA Events, a Portland-based creative studio dedicated to celebrating Brazilian culture through community, storytelling, and sensory experiences.

Join us for an afternoon of harmony, rhythm, and flavor - an invitation to experience the beauty and warmth of Brazil through music, food and celebration.

We close our season with an entire program devoted to the luminous music of Canadian composer Don Macdonald. Tabula Rasa includes audience favorites alongside a new work In Medio has commissioned from him, with text by poet and In Medio alto Sara Quinn Rivara. After the concerts, we’ll record an album of this collection of Macdonald’s works.
