Nov. 3 | In Medio - Written in Secret
Friday, November 3rd, 2023 @7:00pm Augustana Lutheran Church 2710 Northeast 14th Ave, Portland, OR 97212 In Medio kicks off our third season with two examples of vocal music that were composed in secret or contain hidden messages. We pay tribute to the 400th anniversary of the death of English Renaissance master William Byrd with a performance of his iconic Mass for Five Voices. Alongside Byrd’s iconic composition, In Medio will present a collection of African American spirituals, which all contain coded language designed to lead enslaved people to freedom. Join In Medio for a powerful and inspiring evening of singing.
Nov. 18, 25 | Celebrating Local Composers: A Recital Series
Saturday, November 18th & Saturday, November 25th @4:00pm First Congregational United Church of Christ, Portland 1126 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97205 Join us for a recital series featuring works by local, living composers based in the Portland metro area. The programs and performers will vary between the 11/18 and 11/25 performances. These performances are free to attend and will be live streamed. Performances will be held in the Sanctuary at First Congregational United Church of Christ, an ADA accessible venue. Donations are greatly appreciated. Vocalists: 11/18: Gregory Brumfield, Dan Gibbs, Katherine Goforth, Lindsey Rae Johnson; 11/25: Phoebe Gildea, Lindsey Rae Johnson, Allison Knotts; Pianist: Sequoia; Featured Composers: Lisa Neher, Carolyn Quick, and Drew Swatosh of Raindrop New Music. These recitals are funded in part by a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC).

These concerts are presented in collaboration with Cascadia Composers, the Northwest chapter of the National Association of Composers, USA.
Wednesday, December 20th, 2023 @7:00pm The Grotto 8840 NE Skidmore St, Portland, OR, 97220 In Medio returns to the Grotto Festival of Lights for the third time to sing a selection of holiday carols familiar and new. Hear the choir sing in a space where the acoustics are as brilliant as the setting. Enjoy the lights, the holiday atmosphere, and join In Medio as we celebrate the holidays in song.
